Luchon (official name Bagneres-de-Luchon wikilink ) is a town in Pyrenees mountains at the south of France. It is located on altitude of 630 m, surrounded by mountains and lakes, on a distanse of 140 km from Toulouse (2 hours by train, 1h30mins by car) and 340 km from Barcelona (4h drive).

Bagneres-de-Luchon is celebrated for its thermal springs. The springs, which number forty eight, vary in composition, but are chiefly impregnated with sodium sulfate, and range in temperature from 17C to 65C. The thermal baths are used by Romans from 1 century BC. According to Roman chronics "Balneum Lixonense post Neapolitense primum" (the thermes of Luchon are first after Naples).

There are multiple possiblities for mountain hiking visiting glaciers and lakes. There is a gondola lift which brings tourists in 10 mins to Luchon-Superbagneres at 1800m altitude. Le Tour de France passes via Luchon each year.
