As with all physical critera it has certain restrictions. For example it cannot detect complete integrability in nonlinear systems with special hidden symmetries, e.g. in the Toda chain. However, it works for hamiltonian systems of general type where such exceptional symmetries are absent (see discussions in [11,15,32]).
